The Dolphins' improbable path to the playoffs isn't in their hands, but they must do their part MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP Photo/Lynne Sladky) MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins' playoff hopes are not in their hands, but they did their part with a gritty win over San Francisco on Sunday. Coach Mike McDaniel knows that's not enough, and his team will need to do it two more times to even have a shot at making the postseason for the third straight year. “I was just proud of this effort and proud of the guys’ effort in general,” McDaniel said. “And that gives you a chance to win December football. Regardless, unless you’re playing in February, you also have to get adept at experiencing that, going through that, having some momentum and then going back and applying it to the next opponent, because no one cares about one win in December or January realistically. It’s about accumulating those.” Miami (7-8) is on the bubble for a wild-card spot along with Indianapolis (7-8) and Cincinnati (7-8). Even if the Dolphins win their remaining two games, they'll need help from other teams to get in. In one scenario, Miami would make the playoffs with two wins and two losses each by Denver (9-6) and the Los Angeles Chargers (9-6). “This team, we know when we do it well, we can do it very well,” defensive tackle Calais Campbell said. “We know that our chances are slim, but there’s a lot of fight left. And if we have a chance, we’re going to fight for it.” Miami closed out Sunday's game with a strong fourth quarter in all three phases. The offense converted on all three of its third-down attempts. Running back De'Von Achane had 93 of his 190 scrimmage yards in the quarter, including a 50-yard rushing score that put the game out of reach. Jason Sanders nailed a 48-yard field goal just before the two-minute warning. And the defense intercepted Brock Purdy on one of the Niners' last-ditch efforts. “I think that was something that we needed to see as a team together,” quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said. “You could see in all three phases that we were able to play the complementary football that we said we wanted to play. The defense giving the offense opportunities to go put points on the board. Then when there were times where we didn’t do what we wanted to do offensively, the defense held.” With both of the Dolphins' final games on the road, they'll need to play better than they have in away games for much of the season. Miami is 5-3 at home, its fifth straight home winning record, but the Dolphins are 2-5 on the road. McDaniel expressed confidence that those home efforts can travel in this final stretch. “When you’re trying to play football so that in the inevitable situation that you face every season,” McDaniel said, “an elimination game, whether it’s to get in the playoffs or it’s in the playoffs, you want to be tooled with a team that can succeed or execute in those types of situations.” What's working Miami's run game finally got going with 166 yards. It was the Dolphins' first time topping 100 yards rushing since Week 9. Achane led the charge with 120 yards. His 50-yard rushing score was Miami's longest run this season. What needs help The Dolphins moved the ball well but scored touchdowns on just one of three trips to the red zone. Stock up Sanders. He was 5 for 5 on field goals with a long of 54 yards, and 2 for 2 on extra points. Sanders has made 23 consecutive field goals and is 11 of 13 on kicks of 50-plus yards. He's one of two kickers, alongside Dallas' Brandon Aubrey, who have made a field goal in every game this season. Stock down WR Tyreek Hill. The All-Pro receiver caught just 3 of 7 targets for 29 yards and a touchdown. He had a third-down drop on the Dolphins' opening drive and dropped a potential touchdown later in the game. The NFL's receiving leader last year is averaging just 55.6 yards per game and has only two 100-plus yard receiving games this season. Injuries WR Jaylen Waddle missed the game because of a knee injury. ... CB Kendall Fuller (knee) and LB Jordyn Brookes (quad/knee) both went down late in the second half. Key numbers 76 receptions, 802 yards — Both single-season Dolphins records for a tight end, which Jonnu Smith broke with six catches for 62 yards on Sunday. Next step The Dolphins will continue their efforts to sneak into the playoffs when they play at Cleveland (3-12) on Sunday. They'll need to beat the Browns and the New York Jets (4-11) in their regular-season finale to give themselves a chance. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL Alanis Thames, The Associated Press See a typo/mistake? KARACHI - As protest sit-ins by the religious-political party Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) continued in parts of Karachi over deadly tensions in Parachinar, the Sindh government on Sunday appealed to religious scholars to help end the demonstrations. “Jirga has decided on the Kurram issue now the protest sit-ins in Karachi should end,” Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed said in a televised statement issued earlier this evening. Travelling has become a nightmare for a number of citizens as traffic gets clogged at different points and the commuters have to take a diversion, which further aggravates the traffic situation on other arteries as well. The protest demonstrations, which have continued for six consecutive days, are being held at 14 different locations, including major thoroughfares. In addition to other areas, demonstrations are currently taking place at Numaish Chowrangi, Natha Khan Bridge on Sharea Faisal, in front of KDA Flats in Surjani Town, Golimar, Power House Chowrangi, near Safari Park on University Road, Korangi No. 21⁄2, Five Star Chowrangi in North Nazimabad, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Incholi Society, and near Ayesha Manzil. The traffic police, however, said that alternative routes have been provided to facilitate the commuters. The protests stem from the deteriorating security situation in Parachinar, where clashes have resulted in over 130 fatalities since November, the point of the recent escalation of conflict between two tribal groups. In today’s statement, the Sindh government spokesperson urged the protesting party to “realise the sufferings of Karachi citizens” as they are facing deep troubles due the road closures. She pointed out that life in Karachi has been paralysed due to protests, adding that even ambulances had been facing trouble in reaching certain areas. “If you [protesters] want to continue the sit-ins, move it to a ground or [road] outside the Press Club,” Javed added, assuring the government’s readiness to provide facilities. Nisar Khuhro calls on federal govt to withdraw from controversial canal project Karachi police chief meets MWM leaders In a separate development, Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho and Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi visited the protest site on the main MA Jinnah Road near Numaish. During their visit, they also met the leaders of the religious-political party to hold talks. The police chief urged the protesting party to confine its sit-in to Drigh Road as the commuters were facing immense trouble. Separately, while addressing a press conference, senior MWM leader Hassan Zafar Naqvi said that the protests were peaceful in nature, adding: “Our sit-ins are free from sectarianism and open to individuals from all backgrounds. People from various walks of life are joining us in solidarity.” Despite the prolonged demonstration, Hassan clarified that the participants were not presenting any specific demands for negotiations. “We are not here to push forward any demands; our protest is a testament to our stance and principles,” he stated. He said that they are willing to end sit-ins in Karachi if the Parachinar protest is called off. “We have staged these sit-ins at the request of Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and will end them upon his directive,” he added. Kamran Tessori announces grand fireworks at Governor House on New Year’s eve Speaking about the challenges faced in Parachinar, Hassan highlighted that the region is grappling with basic issues. Even helicopters lack fuel and gas to operate effectively, he remarked, underscoring the urgent need for attention to these problems. The MWM leader reaffirmed the peaceful nature of the demonstrations and their purpose. “Our protests are non-violent and aim to raise our voices against all forms of oppression,” he said. However, he expressed concern over the negative propaganda being circulated against their sit-ins. “There is a deliberate campaign to malign our peaceful demonstrations,” Hassan added. He warned the Sindh government not to exploit their ongoing protests for political gains. He clarified that it was not a protest organised by any political party. Instead, it is a protest for the oppressed, and people from all walks of life are participating, he added. Sindh govt will not compromise on its water rights: Shazia Marri “If we call for sit-ins across Sindh, the government will not be able to stop them,” the MWM leader added, hinting at the expanding circle of protests. Reiterating the peaceful and inclusive nature of the demonstrations, Hassan claimed that their protests have not disrupted daily life. “We have kept one lane open at every protest site, ensuring that no businesses are affected,” he stated. A day earlier, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab slammed continuous blockades of roads in Karachi “under the guise of protest”, saying it was an inappropriate act. The mayor also rebuked the protestors for damaging newly-constructed roads. “Who allowed them to damage the roads constructed recently in New Karachi,” he said, while speaking to reporters. Murtaza said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should resolve the issue of Parachinar. However, he added, blocking arteries would not serve the purpose. He lamented that if anything happened anywhere in the country, demonstrations are staged and roads are closed in Karachi. Police arrest man for killing friend Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah appealed to the demonstrators to avoid causing hardship for the public, saying: “Blocking roads in Karachi and Sukkur will not resolve the Parachinar issue.” Parachinar, located in Kurram, is a tribal district near the Afghan border with a population of around 600,000. It has long been a hotspot for conflict. Recent clashes have triggered a humanitarian crisis, with shortages of medicine and oxygen exacerbated by the closure of the highway connecting Parachinar to Peshawar. In a relief effort, the Sindh governor’s office announced that a helicopter carrying medical supplies and other aid had reached Parachinar. These provisions were sent on the Sindh governor’s directive to address the growing crisis. Tags: sindh govt seeks ulema mwm sit

Trump picks Jared Kushner's father Charles to be French Ambassador after 'loathsome' crimeThe education sector should be prioritized to develop the capacities of people with disabilities, said Vice-Senior General Soe Win. At the ceremony to mark the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, Chairman of the National Committee on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win delivered a speech on the rights of the persons with disabilities. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Senior General noted that there are about 23,000 children with disabilities according to a 2016 study, and two in three children do not attend school and only 36 per cent can read and write. Therefore, special emphasis should be placed on the education sector for disabled people in the future. The government also arranges proper measures like creating opportunities at basic education schools for the disabled, vocational schools, adopting inclusive curricula and practices for disabled persons, teacher training for special education and providing required technologies and teaching aids for the disabled persons to get learning opportunities like others. He added that the theme of this year is “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”. Among 8,200 million of world population, 16 per cent, over 1,300 million, are with disabilities. The 2019 interim census of Myanmar shows 5.9 million representing 12.8 per cent of the country’s population are with disabilities. The government ratified the UNCRPD on 7 December 2011 and also enacted the Right of Persons with Disabilities Law (2015) and Rules (2017). Moreover, the country organized the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and nine working committees and subcommittees to implement the rights of persons with disabilities. Similarly, the government also creates a non-obstacle environment for people with disabilities in public buildings and transport and adopts sign language in news broadcasting. Moreover, the honorary awards are also being presented for accessible tourism for people with disabilities every year in ceremonies marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. He continued that although the body of disabled people is not strong enough like others, proper measures must be arranged for them to participate in different sectors using their healthy body parts. Such actions can end the depression and feeling of insecurity of disabled people and can empower them to become reliable persons bringing benefits to the country. When disabled people can operate their vocational industries, they can receive integration in social and economic sectors, and become independent. Therefore, all should understand and accept them as they can do something even though they are disabled persons, and allow them to participate in organizations, servicing duties in making policies and decisions. Moreover, the classification of disabilities and registration process is being conducted in 21 townships, and 5,937 are registered to date. He then stressed the need to conduct rehearsals and education programmes for disabled persons regarding natural disasters, carry out actions under the laws, rules and regulations, and work together in line with the theme of this year. Then, the Vice-Senior General awarded the winners of article competitions marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Moreover, the SAC members and Vice-Chair 1 of the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities presented awards to the winners of different levels in different competitions. Next, the Vice-Senior General and party enjoyed the performance of the members of the Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities and students of Kyimyindine School For the Blind and School For the Deaf (Yangon). The Vice-Senior General presented cash awards to the dance troupes. The Vice-Senior General also posed for a photo together with the attendees and observed the displayed books, handmade products and photo records. — MNA/KTZHNetflix has unveiled the final trailer for its upcoming spy thriller series , Black Doves. WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawmakers, meet your latest lobbyists: online influencers from TikTok. The platform is once again bringing influencers to Washington, this time to lobby members of Congress to reject a fast-moving bill that would force TikTok’s Beijing-based parent company to sell or be banned in the United States. On Tuesday, some influencers began a two-day advocacy event in support of TikTok, which arranged their trip ahead of a House floor vote on the legislation on Wednesday. But unlike a similar lobbying event the company put together last March when talks of a TikTok ban reached a fever pitch, this year’s effort appeared more rushed as the company scrambles to counter the legislation, which advanced rapidly on Capitol Hill. Summer Lucille, a TikTok content creator with 1.4 million followers who is visiting Washington this week, said if TikTok is banned, she “don’t know what it will do” to her business, a plus-sized boutique in Charlotte, North Carolina. “It will be devastating,” Lucille said in an interview arranged by the platform. The legislation is drawing unusual support in Congress In an unusual showing of bipartisanship, a House panel unanimously approved the measure last week. President Joe Biden has said he will sign the legislation if lawmakers pass it. But it’s unclear what will happen in the Senate, where several bills aimed at banning TikTok have stalled. The legislation faces other roadblocks. Former president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump, who holds sway over both House and Senate Republicans, has voiced opposition to the bill, saying it would empower Meta-owned Facebook, which he continues to lambast over his 2020 election loss. The bill also faces pushback from some progressive lawmakers in the House as well as civil liberties groups who argue it infringes on the First Amendment. TikTok could be banned if ByteDance, the parent company, doesn’t sell its stakes in the platform and other applications it owns within six months of the bill’s enactment. The fight over the platform takes place as U.S.-China relations have shifted to that of strategic rivalry, especially in areas such as advanced technologies and data security, seen as essential to each country’s economic prowess and national security. The shift, which started during the Trump years and has continued under Biden, has placed restrictions on export of advanced technologies and outflow of U.S. monies to China, as well as access to the U.S. market by certain Chinese businesses. The Biden administration also has cited human rights concerns in blacklisting a number of Chinese companies accused of assisting the state surveillance campaign against ethnic minorities. TikTok isn’t short on lobbyists. Its Beijing-based parent company ByteDance has a strong lobbying apparatus in Washington that includes dozens of lobbyists from well-known consulting and legal firms as well as influential insiders, such as former members of Congress and ex-aides to powerful lawmakers, according to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew will also be in Washington this week and plans to meet with lawmakers, according to a company spokesperson who said Chew’s visit was previously scheduled. Influencers descend on Washington But influencers, who have big followings on social media and can share personal stories of how the platform boosted their businesses _ or simply gave them a voice — are still perhaps one of the most powerful tools the company has in its arsenal. A TikTok spokesperson said dozens of influencers will attend the two-day event, including some who came last year. The spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions about how many new people would be attending this year’s lobbying blitz. The company is briefing them ahead of meetings with their representatives and media interviews. Lucille, who runs the boutique in North Carolina, says has seen a substantial surge in revenue because of her TikTok page. The 34-year-old began making TikTok content focusing on plus-sized fashion in March 2022, more than a decade after she started her business. She quickly amassed thousands of followers after posting a nine-second video about her boutique. Because of her popularity on the platform, her business has more online exposure and customers, some of whom have visited from as far as Europe. She says she also routinely hears from followers who are finding support through her content about fashion and confidence. JT Laybourne, an influencer who also came to Washington, said he joined TikTok in early 2019 after getting some negative comments on videos he posted on Instagram while singing in the car with his children. Laybourne, who lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, said he was attracted to the short-form video platform because it was easy to create videos that contained music. Like Lucille, he quickly gained traction on the app. He says he also received more support from TikTok users, who reacted positively to content he produced on love and positivity. Laybourne says the community he built on the platform rallied around his family when he had to undergo heart surgery in 2020. Following the surgery, he said he used the platform to help raise $1 million for the American Heart Association in less than two years. His family now run an apparel company that gets most of its traffic from TikTok. “I will fight tooth-and-nail for this app,” he said. But whether the opposition the company is mounting through lobbyists or influencers will be enough to derail the bill is yet to be seen. On Tuesday, House lawmakers received a briefing on national security concerns regarding TikTok from the FBI, Justice Department and intelligence officials. ____ AP Journalist Didi Tang contributed to this report. ___ This story was originally published on March 12, 2024. It was updated on December 23, 2024 to clarify a quote by TikTok content creator Summer Lucille.MINNEAPOLIS – Penn State fans, greetings from Huntington Stadium. James Franklin’s No. 4 Nittany Lions are warming up ahead of their Big Ten matchup with P.J. Fleck’s Minnesota Golden Gophers. The weather is incredible for Minnesota at this time of year: 40 degrees and no wind. You can follow along here at PennLive for updates throughout the game. PSU has won two consecutive games since dropping a narrow 20-13 decision to Ohio State at Beaver Stadium. The Lions scored a total of 84 points in victories over Washington (35-6) and Purdue (49-10). Minnesota was off last week. PSU is 4-0 on the road. Penn State wideout Julian Fleming i s listed as questionable on the Big Ten-mandated availability report and young corner Elliot Washington is out with an undisclosed injury. Here’s the big question: What will Minnesota’s defense do to try and stop Penn State star tight end Tyler Warren? Warren, who leads the Lions in catches (67), yards (808) and receiving touchdowns (five). One more note on Warren: He will double his 2023 output in receptions with his next catch. He had 34 receptions for 422 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023. THIRD QUARTER PENN STATE 23, MINNESOTA 22 3:43: Penn State moved 57 yards in five plays to take its first lead on a 12-yard touchdown run by Nick Singleton. Penn State tight end Tyler Warren had three catches for 30 yards on the drive. Ryan Barker’s extra point gave the Lions the lead. PENN STATE 23, MINNESOTA 22. 9:59: Penn State’s defense could not get a stop on Minnesota’s first possession. The Gophers drove 51 yards in nine plays to set up a 42-yard field goal by Dragan Kesich. MINNESOTA 22, PENN STATE 16. HALFTIME MINNESOTA 19, PENN STATE 16 The final couple of minutes got crazy here in Minneapolis. Minnesota had all the momentum late, then Penn State and Drew Allar stole it, only to see a crazy special teams play but the Gophers in front, 19-16. First, Minnesota’s Derik LeCaptain deflected a Riley Thompson punt, giving the Gophers’ possession at the PSU 21 with 1:10 left before half. The Gophers then ran a trick play, with running back Darius Taylor taking a handoff, pitching it to wideout Daniel Jackson, who flipped it back to quarterback Max Brosmer. Tight end Jameson Geers was wide open on the right side for a 21-yard touchdown. Minnesota led 17-10, but PSU answered with a six-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that Allar capped with a four-yard rush with 19 seconds left before half. However, Ryan Barker’s point-after try was blocked by Minnesota’s Jack Henderson and teammate Ethan Robinson returned it for a two-point score. It could have been 17-17, but it was 19-16, Gophers. 7:50: Penn State’s offense turns an interception by linebacker Dom DeLuca into three points. Allar took another big sack on a drive, but Ryan Barker connected on a 45-yard field goal midway through the second quarter. PENN STATE 10, MINNESOTA 10. 10:48: Well, the Lions’ offense answered the Minnesota field goal with a quick score. Allar connected with wide-open speedy wideout Omari Evans on a 45-yard bomb. Barker with the extra point. MINNESOTA 10, PENN STATE 7. 12:56: Minnesota’s offense moved the Gophers into scoring territory again, and Gophers kicker Dragan Kesich connects from 48 yards on a field goal to give the hosts a 10-0 lead with 12:56 left before halftime. Minnesota only had to drive 25 yards in seven plays after Allar’s sack on fourth down. MINNESOTA 10, PENN STATE 0. FIRST QUARTER MINNESOTA 7, PENN STATE 0 Penn State’s offense has to get its act together as the Lions trail 7-0 after one quarter. The Lions managed just 30 yards total on their first two drives. And on the third drive, Allar, facing a fourth-and-five play from the Minnesota 33, was sacked for a 12-yard loss. 8:57: The game could not have started much worse for Penn State. First, starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh left the game on the Lions’ first offensive series with an apparent leg injury. He was replaced by Nolan Rucci. Then tight end Tyler Warren, aligned as the wildcat QB, got stuffed for no gain on a third-and-one try from the PSU 35. Minnesota took possession on its 30 and drove 70 yards in nine plays, the last one a 20-yard scoring run by backup running back Marcus Major with 8:57 left in the first quarter. Dragan Kasich with the extra point. MINNESOTA 7, PENN STATE 0. ©2024 Advance Local Media LLC. Visit pennlive.com . Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC.
“The real estate sector’s GDP growth rates in 2024 were relatively subdued, recording 0.84 per cent in Q1, 0.75 per cent in Q2, and 0.68 per cent in Q3. These figures lagged behind the national GDP growth rate for each quarter, underscoring the sector’s challenges,” a report by BuyLetLive read. According to the report, despite this slow growth, the real estate service GDP contribution growth rate remained robust, standing at 5.20 per cent in Q1, 5.17 per cent in Q2, and 5.43 per cent in Q3. It stated, “This consistency highlights the sector’s indispensable role in supporting broader economic activity. Real estate remains a significant contributor to urbanisation, employment generation, and wealth creation, even amid its slower growth. “In comparison, the construction sector showed a more dynamic growth trajectory. After contracting by 2.14 per cent in Q1, the sector rebounded with growth rates of 1.05 per cent in Q2 and 2.91 per cent in Q3. This rebound can be attributed to increased public spending on infrastructure, private sector investments, and heightened demand for both residential and commercial properties. “The construction sector’s GDP contribution growth rate followed a similar path, reflecting the symbiotic relationship between construction and real estate. As construction expands, it creates opportunities for real estate development, while strong demand in real estate stimulates construction activities.” On challenges holding back real estate growth, the report noted that several factors contributed to the real estate sector’s relatively slower growth. It further read, “One of the most significant issues is the economy’s slow recovery from inflationary pressures, which has affected purchasing power and reduced demand for residential and commercial properties. High-interest rates have compounded this problem by making borrowing for real estate projects more expensive. Regulatory hurdles, such as delays in land titling and high transaction costs, also remain significant challenges for the sector. Additionally, the absence of a unified housing policy has created inefficiencies, further stifling growth. Related News LASG calls for innovation in real estate sector US-based real estate firm unveils platform for Nigerian investors High inflation, demolitions hinder $2.4tn real estate value – Operators “Another critical issue is the persistent demand-supply mismatch. Rapid urbanisation continues to drive demand for affordable housing, but supply has not kept pace due to high construction costs, limited access to land, and insufficient financing options. The lack of affordable mortgage systems has further constrained residential real estate growth, leaving a gap that needs urgent attention from policymakers and industry stakeholders. “The implications of these dynamics are significant for various stakeholders in the real estate industry. For policymakers, there is an urgent need to streamline housing regulations, simplify land titling processes, and invest in infrastructure that supports real estate activities. Developers must focus on cost optimisation, innovative construction methods, and exploring emerging markets to overcome rising costs and limited demand. Investors can benefit from leveraging data-driven insights to identify high-potential areas for growth while diversifying their portfolios across residential, commercial, and industrial segments. For consumers, the growing adoption of green building technologies and affordable housing initiatives offers promising opportunities. However, advocacy for transparent pricing and financing options remains crucial to making real estate more accessible to the broader population.” It further stated that despite these challenges, opportunities still abound in the real estate sector. “The construction sector’s growth presents direct opportunities for real estate development, particularly in urban centres like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. Public-private partnerships aimed at addressing affordable housing deficits could also unlock significant potential in the residential market. The rise of technology and innovation in the industry offers another avenue for growth. Proptech solutions, such as digital platforms for property transactions, smart home technologies, and data-driven market insights, are creating efficiencies and boosting investor confidence. “Furthermore, the growing focus on sustainability is reshaping real estate development in Nigeria. Green building practices and sustainable real estate solutions are gaining traction as awareness of environmental issues grows. These trends not only enhance the appeal of new developments but also position the industry for long-term relevance in a rapidly changing global market. “Nevertheless, the real estate industry faces persistent challenges that need to be addressed to unlock its full potential. Economic volatility remains a major concern, despite the improving GDP growth rate. Rising costs of building materials, labour, and logistics are straining developers and pushing up property prices, which limits affordability. Additionally, inadequate infrastructure development in rural and peri-urban areas restricts opportunities for real estate expansion, despite the pressing need for housing in these regions. Inconsistent government policies and unclear tax regimes also create uncertainties that deter both local and foreign investors.”Bryan Johnson, a 45-year-old tech millionaire known for his extreme anti-ageing experiments, is set to visit India from December 1-6. Johnson, founder of the ‘Blueprint’ project aimed at reversing ageing, will promote his book and his ‘Don’t Die’ community during the visit. Johnson recently shared a series of India-centric posts on X (formerly Twitter), including a playful reference to actor Poonam Pandey. In one tweet, he said, “Hello India. I have been told the only person who believes in ‘Don’t Die’ is Poonam Pandey. We are about to change that. I am in Mumbai from December 1-3 and in Bangalore from December 4-6,” adding the hashtag “MarnaMat” (don’t die). A former Silicon Valley executive, Johnson spends over $2 million annually on anti-ageing treatments. His meticulous routine includes waking at 4:30 am, consuming a 1,950-calorie diet, taking over 100 supplements daily, and undergoing targeted exercises. His quest to reverse ageing has involved unconventional methods like blood transfusions from his teenage son and gene therapy. Despite these efforts, his experiments sometimes backfire. Earlier this month, he shared a bloated image of his face after an attempt to inject donor fat to look younger. While the results were initially alarming, Johnson later reported a full recovery. Johnson rose to prominence after selling his credit card processing company, Braintree, to PayPal for $800 million in 2013. Since then, he has invested in technologies addressing Alzheimer’s and strokes.

Tweet Facebook Mail Defence lawyers for US President-elect Donald Trump are using President Joe Biden's pardon of his son Hunter to argue that Trump's conviction in his Manhattan hush money case should be dismissed. "Yesterday in issuing a 10 year pardon to Hunter Biden that covers any and all crimes whether charged or uncharged, President Biden asserted that his son was 'selectively, and unfairly prosecuted' and 'treated differently,'" Trump lawyers wrote in a motion filed on Monday. Trump's lawyers – Todd Blanche and Emil Bove – whom he has picked for top Justice Department posts in his new administration – argue these comments amount to a condemnation of Biden's own Justice Department and that New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg has engaged in the same kind of "political theatre." The ambitious goal of making Jammu and Kashmir Tuberculosis (TB) free by the end of 2025, as outlined by the Chief Secretary during a recent meeting, reflects a robust commitment to public health under the PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. With TB being one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases, claiming millions of lives annually, this goal aligns with India’s larger objective of eradicating the disease nationwide. However, achieving this vision requires a multidimensional approach that addresses detection, treatment, awareness, and community involvement. J&K currently has a TB-affected population of approximately 11,650 individuals who are receiving free treatment across various healthcare facilities. While districts like Anantnag, Budgam, and Pulwama have already been declared ‘TB Free,’ others like Baramulla, Srinagar, and Kupwara are in the process of obtaining this certification. This progress is commendable but also underscores the immense challenge that lies ahead. The disease thrives on poor socio-economic conditions, lack of awareness, and delayed diagnosis, which necessitates a robust and comprehensive strategy. The fact that 463,872 presumptive tests have been conducted this year, achieving a testing rate of 3,047 per lakh of the population, is proof of the focused efforts of the administration. However, with 1,516 out of 4,243 Panchayats declared TB-free, the path to achieving complete elimination remains steep and calls for relentless efforts. One of the critical pillars in combating TB is the early detection of cases. The emphasis on contact tracing and intensive sampling, as highlighted in the meeting, is pivotal. TB is highly contagious, and undetected cases can lead to widespread transmission within communities. The ongoing ‘100-Days TB Campaign’ aims to expedite case detection in vulnerable populations, targeting high-priority districts like Jammu, Srinagar, and Baramulla. To further bolster detection efforts, leveraging technology and innovative diagnostic tools should be a priority. Mobile diagnostic units, expanded access to rapid molecular tests, and integrating TB testing in routine health check-ups at Health and Wellness Centres and Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs can bridge the gap in early diagnosis. While free treatment is already being provided, adherence to the prescribed regimen remains a significant hurdle. The administration’s initiative of providing Rs 1,000 monthly under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana, along with food baskets through Nikshay Mitras, is a commendable step toward ensuring nutritional support for patients. However, effective counselling, regular follow-ups, and community support are equally essential to keep patients on track with their treatment. Utilising ASHA workers, women SHGs under JKRLM, and other rural institutions to identify and support TB patients can be a critical component of the strategy. These grassroots organisations serve as vital conduits to reach the most vulnerable populations, raising awareness, collecting samples, and ensuring treatment compliance. Moreover, community involvement reduces the stigma associated with TB, encouraging more people to come forward for testing and treatment. The role of Nikshay Mitras deserves special mention. The voluntary adoption of TB patients by 5,406 Nikshay Mitras in J&K, providing food baskets and emotional support, is a model that should be further expanded. Engaging local influencers, religious leaders, and educators can amplify the campaign’s reach and impact. Awareness campaigns remain the backbone of any disease eradication program. The directive to send bulk messages to the families of TB patients, as suggested by the Chief Secretary, is a step in the right direction. Authorities must use both traditional and digital platforms to disseminate information about symptoms, treatment availability, and the importance of timely diagnosis. Effective monitoring mechanisms are crucial to track progress and address bottlenecks. Regular audits of TB facilities should be institutionalised. Senior officers’ visits to healthcare centres can ensure accountability, identify gaps, and provide on-ground support. TB-free J&K by 2025 is a mission that demands unwavering commitment, innovative strategies, and a united front. The success will ultimately depend on sustained efforts, adequate funding, and an adaptive approach to emerging challenges. The ‘100-Days TB Campaign’ and the ongoing activities must serve as catalysts to accelerate progress.Five things to know about Panama Canal, in Trump's sightsJamie Redknapp questions Arsenal's 'strange' penalty decision during 5-2 rout of West Ham - with both Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard on target from the spot Regular taker Bukayo Saka handed Martin Odegaard the ball for the first penalty The winger scored the second but Redknapp says Norwegian should have taken it This Man City team is DONE and Pep Guardiola has been sleeping on the job - LISTEN NOW to It's All Kicking Off!
