Guotai Junan Securities (2611) is set to merge with Haitong Securities (6837) creating China's largest brokerage. The merger will be conducted through a swap deal where Guotai Junan issues A-shares and H-shares to all A-share and H-share exchange shareholders of Haitong Securities. Hong Kong's securities watchdog has approved Guotai Junan Securities to become the major shareholder of certain subsidiaries of Haitong Securities which are licensed corporations. In October, Shanghai-based Guotai Junan Securities announced details of its plan to merge with cross-town rival Haitong Securities in a share swap deal, a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange showed. The merger of two state-backed brokerages to create a sector leader in China with US$230 billion (HK$1.78 trillion) in assets is part of Beijing's drive to consolidate the US$1.7 trillion industry in an increasingly challenging market and the move is set to gather pace, according to Reuters. The combined entity will overtake Citic Securities (6030) as China's largest brokerage. Both Haitong and Guotai Junan are controlled by companies running state assets for the Shanghai government. WILLIAMSPORT — If a social media chat thread can be believed, a fatal shooting outside a Williamsport area restaurant in March could have been worse. That possibility was revealed in new state police charges filed against Ibn Hakiem Hunter, 19, in connection with the March 2 fatal shooting outside the Fridays restaurant in the Williamsport suburb of Loyalsock Twp. Hunter, whose address now is listed as Easton, was returned Wednesday from New Jersey where he was arrested and jailed in lieu of $75,000 bail. WASHINGTON (AP) — A person accused of accosting U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in a Capitol Office building pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a misdemeanor assault charge. Witnesses told police that James McIntyre, 33, of Chicago, shook Mace's hand in an “exaggerated, aggressive” manner after approaching the South Carolina Republican in the Rayburn House Office Building on Tuesday evening, according to a police affidavit. Mace, who is identified only by her initials in a court filing, posted a string of social media messages about the incident. She said she was “physically accosted” at the Capitol, and she thanked President-elect Donald Trump for calling her Wednesday morning to check on her condition. “I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside,” Mace wrote. Mace declined to be treated by a paramedic after her encounter with McIntyre, who was arrested Tuesday by the Capitol Police, the affidavit says. Mace told police that McIntyre said, “Trans youth serve advocacy,” while shaking her hand. Last month, Mace that would prohibit any lawmakers and House employees from “using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.” Mace said the bill is aimed specifically at Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride — the to be elected to Congress. A magistrate judge ordered McIntyre’s release after an arraignment in Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
