Elon Musk is easily the world’s wealthiest man, with a net worth topping $300 billion. But even he stands to make more money from his association with the federal government after placing a winning bet on Donald Trump’s election to the presidency. “It’s going to be a golden era for Musk with Trump in the White House,” Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives said. Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX received billions of dollars in federal contracts, and could be in line for more, while his five other businesses could gain from a lighter regulatory touch. Trump named Musk to co-head a new Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE — a nod to the cryptocurrency Musk adores. However, federal law bars executive branch employees, which can include unpaid consultants, from participating in government matters that will affect their financial interests, unless they divest of their interests or recuse themselves. Trump’s transition team has sought a work-around, saying he would “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government” with the work concluding by July 2026, according to a news release. Richard Painter, a University of Minnesota Law School professor and former chief White House ethics lawyer, said that if Musk is truly working outside the government he doesn’t have to sell his assets, but that limits his influence. “He can make recommendations, but ultimately the decisions are made by government officials,” Painter said. Trump’s campaign and Musk’s companies didn’t respond to requests for comment. Here’s how Musk could benefit from Trump’s presidency. SpaceX If there’s one Musk business that could profit the most from the incoming Trump administration, it’s SpaceX. The company, which announced this year it would move its headquarters from California to Texas, already received at least $21 billion in federal funds since its 2002 founding, according to government contracting research firm The Pulse. That includes contracts for launching military satellites, servicing the International Space Station and building a lunar lander. However, that figure could be dwarfed by a federal initiative to fund a Mars mission, which is the stated goal of SpaceX. “Elon Musk is wealthy, but he’s not wealthy enough to completely fund humans to Mars. It needs to be a public/private partnership, because of the tens of billions of dollars that this would cost, or even hundreds of billions dollars,” said Laura Forczyk, executive director of space industry consulting firm Astralytical. SpaceX already made big strides testing Musk’s Starship rocket, the most powerful ever built. NASA envisions employing the rocket in its Artemis program to return humans to the moon, but it has been designed to have enough thrust to propel a spacecraft to Mars. What’s more, Trump, during his first presidency, speculated on Twitter about why the United States was focusing on the moon instead of Mars. Still, there are technical challenges, with SpaceX yet to complete the $4 billion Starship lunar lander, which would have to be modified for Mars. And without a pressing geopolitical threat, Congress may be unwilling to spend more on space exploration, as it did during the 1960s with the Apollo program, Forczyk said. Should a Mars project not materialize, SpaceX could still reap rewards in the next four years. For example, the Federal Communications Commission denied SpaceX nearly $900 million in federal subsidies to provide rural broadband access through its Starlink satellite network. Under new FCC leadership, Forczyk sees that being reversed. Tesla Trump’s policies could reduce the sales of electric vehicles, but with Musk’s influence, his administration’s policies could boost Tesla — though not with federal funding. For example, Trump, who tempered criticism of electric vehicles after Musk backed him, might end a $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles. That would hurt Tesla’s unprofitable rivals that rely more on the tax credits to lure customers. “Tesla is the only automaker that has the scale and scope to price vehicles in a $30,000-to-$40,000 range and make significant profits,” Ives said. “It would essentially take competition out of the market.” Trump’s Republican administration also is considering imposing tariffs on Mexico and China, which could make cars more expensive. Ives said he expects Trump to make exceptions for Tesla and Apple so they’re not hit by a tax on imported goods. Tesla receives only a smattering of federal contracts, according to USAspending.gov , a database that tracks U.S. government spending. This year, Tesla received at least $2.8 million from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation through a federally funded program to deploy EV charging stations. xAI and X Musk’s startup xAI doesn’t appear to have federal government contracts, but artificial intelligence companies could benefit in other ways under Trump. Republicans and Musk have expressed support for cutting regulation to fuel AI innovation, a crucial part of the future of tech companies. But Musk has also warned that AI could pose a threat to humanity, and it’s unclear how Trump plans to address potential safety risks that come with technology including fraud, bias and disinformation. X, formerly known as Twitter, served as an online megaphone for Musk, who constantly shared his support for Trump during the election season. The social media site, which recently relocated its San Francisco headquarters to Texas, doesn’t appear to have any federal government contracts, but X could benefit from policy changes that affect its rivals such as Meta and TikTok. Musk, who has declared himself a “free speech absolutist,” recently shared an old Trump video with the words “YES!” In the video from 2022, Trump says he would change Section 230, a law that shields platforms from liability for user-generated content. Platforms would qualify for immunity only if the companies “meet high standards of neutrality, transparency, fairness and nondiscrimination,” Trump said. The Boring Co. Fed up with Los Angeles traffic, Elon Musk launched The Boring Co. with two tweets in 2016, promising “to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging.” The Bastrop, Texas, company, formerly headquartered in Hawthorne, has completed a 1.7-mile loop under the Las Vegas Convention Center and is building a larger citywide loop — both without federal funding. Projects in some other cities didn’t get past the proposal stages. However, at Trump’s urging, congressional representatives could earmark local transportation projects to the benefit of Boring Co., though the company would still have to compete to win them, said Greg Griffin, a former urban planning professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, who studied that city’s proposed Boring Co. project. Neuralink Controlling robotic limbs. Seeing without eyes. Those are the kinds of miraculous advances Musk’s Neuralink startup has been trying to achieve. The Fremont, California, company he co-founded in 2016 doesn’t receive federal money, but its technology and clinical trails are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. The more hands-off approach favored by Trump could aid such medical device developers. “We’re concerned that regulation in general in the FDA will be weakened under the second Trump administration, and particularly concerned about medical devices,” said Dr. Robert Steinbrook, health research group director for the consumer rights group Public Citizen. We project November inflation to decline to 4.7 per cent YoY,” said brokerage Arif Habib Ltd. “Furthermore, certain scrips are trading at attractive valuations, which are likely to continue enticing investor interest.” The week commenced on a negative trajectory as heightened political unrest led the market to decline by around 3,500 points. However, with the easing of political uncertainty, the market swiftly recovered the following day and ultimately surpassed the 100,000 points level. Key drivers of this recovery included expectations of further easing in inflation and a strong rally in commercial banks following the removal of minimum deposit rate (MDR). The market concluded the week at 101,357 points, marking a gain of 3,559 points (3.64 per cent week-on-week). Average volumes arrived at 979 million shares (down 1.2 per cent WoW), while the average value traded settled at $133 million (up 7.1 per cent WoW). Foreigner selling continued during this week, clocking in at $15.1 million compared to a net sell of $33 million last week. Major selling was witnessed in banks ($4.7 million) followed by fertiliser ($4.2 million). On the local front, buying was reported by insurance ($10.6 million) followed by individuals ($7.3 million). Sector-wise positive contributions came from commercial banks (1,676 points), technology & communication (349 points), oil & gas exploration companies (284 points), oil & gas marketing companies (260 points) and cement (234 points). Scrip-wise positive contributors were HBL (694 points), BAHL (538 points), PPL (274 points), SYS (255 points), and BAFL (205 points). The sectors that mainly contributed negatively were miscellaneous (52 points), automobile assembler (11 points), and automobile parts and accessories (5 points). Scrip-wise negative contributions came from MEBL (439 points), EFERT (78 points), FABL (57 points), PSEL (56 points), and SAZEW (34 points). Analyst Abdul Basit at JS Research said bullish momentum continued to prevail, with the KSE-100 reaching its historical milestone of 100k levels during the week. He said the week began with an uncertain political environment amid protests, which led to significant selling in the market. However, the decline was limited, followed by a strong recovery after the protest was called off. Developments in the banking sector regarding changes in the minimum deposit rate kept activity, in the sector, high throughout the week. In the recent T-bill auction, the government raised Rs616 billion against a target of Rs800 billion, with yields decreasing by 61-85bps across different tenors. Similarly, the six-month Kibor dropped by 96bps WoW to 12.67 per cent, reaching its lowest level in over 2.5 years. Moreover, auto financing continued to recover for the second consecutive month (3.7 per cent MoM), reaching Rs236 billion in Oct-2024. As per the latest data, SBP reserves increased by $131 million WoW to $11.4 billion. Additionally, Pakistan received $500 million from the ADB under its climate financing programme, which will be reflected in the upcoming week. The PKR marginally depreciated by 0.10 per cent WoW, concluding the week at 278.04 against the greenback. Nabeel Haroon, an analyst at Topline Securities, said the KSE-100 index increased by 3.64 per cent on a WoW basis; this gain was largely led by the heavyweight banking sector on development on the MDR front, where the sector rallied after the SBP removed the MDR requirement for all conventional banks on deposits from financial institutions, public sector enterprises and public limited companies.

By EMILY WAGSTER PETTUS JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court should overturn Mississippi’s Jim Crow-era practice of removing voting rights from people convicted of certain felonies, including nonviolent crimes such as forgery and timber theft, attorneys say in new court papers. Most of the people affected are disenfranchised for life because the state provides few options for restoring ballot access. “Mississippi’s harsh and unforgiving felony disenfranchisement scheme is a national outlier,” attorneys representing some who lost voting rights said in an appeal filed Wednesday. They wrote that states “have consistently moved away from lifetime felony disenfranchisement over the past few decades.” This case is the second in recent years — and the third since the late 19th century — that asks the Supreme Court to overturn Mississippi’s disenfranchisement for some felonies. The cases use different legal arguments, and the court rejected the most recent attempt in 2023. The new appeal asks justices to reverse a July ruling from the conservative 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which said Mississippi legislators, not the courts, must decide whether to change the laws. Stripping away voting rights for some crimes is unconstitutional because it is cruel and unusual punishment, the appeal argues. A majority of justices rejected arguments over cruel and unusual punishment in June when they cleared the way for cities to enforce bans on homeless people sleeping outside in public places. Attorneys who sued Mississippi over voting rights say the authors of the state’s 1890 constitution based disenfranchisement on a list of crimes they thought Black people were more likely to commit. A majority of the appeals judges wrote that the Supreme Court in 1974 reaffirmed constitutional law allowing states to disenfranchise felons. About 38% of Mississippi residents are Black. Nearly 50,000 people were disenfranchised under the state’s felony voting ban between 1994 and 2017. More than 29,000 of them have completed their sentences, and about 58% of that group are Black, according to an expert who analyzed data for plaintiffs challenging the voting ban. In recent years, legislators have restored voting rights for only a few people. The other recent case that went to the Supreme Court argued that authors of Mississippi’s constitution showed racist intent when they chose which felonies would cause people to lose the right to vote. In that ruling, justices declined to reconsider a 2022 appeals court decision that said Mississippi remedied the discriminatory intent of the original provisions in the state constitution by later altering the list of disenfranchising crimes. In 1950, Mississippi dropped burglary from the list. Murder and rape were added in 1968. The Mississippi attorney general issued an opinion in 2009 that expanded the list to 22 crimes, including timber larceny, carjacking, felony-level shoplifting and felony-level writing bad checks. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote in a 2023 dissent that Mississippi’s list of disenfranchising crimes was “adopted for an illicit discriminatory purpose.”The allure of Chinese assets lies in the country's robust economic growth, expanding consumer market, and technological advancements. Photo: Cheng I-hwa, Bloomberg REGIONAL STABILITY:The arms sale to Taiwan is the 18th approved by US President Joe Biden’s administration and the sixth since William Lai was elected president on Jan. 13 / Staff writer, with CNA 請繼續往下閱讀... The US government on Friday announced arms sales involving spare parts and support for F-16 fighter aircraft and follow-up support for Improved Mobile Subscriber Equipment (IMSE), at a total cost of US$387 million. It is the 18th arms sale approved by US President Joe Biden’s administration to Taiwan and the sixth since the nation’s presidential and legislative elections on Jan. 13. The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said it delivered the required certification notifying the US Congress of the latest arms sale on Friday. 請繼續往下閱讀... The proposed arms sale is consistent with US law and policy as expressed in Public Law 96-8, the agency added. The agency in a statement released on Friday said the US Department of State has approved foreign military sales of spare parts and support for F-16 fighter jet and active electronically scanned array radars and related equipment at an estimated cost of US$320 million to Taiwan. Deliveries are expected to begin next year. The agency said the proposed sale would improve Taiwan’s ability to meet threats by maintaining the operational readiness of its fleet of F-16 aircraft. The agency in a separate statement said the US State Department has also approved the sale of follow-up support for IMSE for about US$65 million. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US requested the procurement of extended services provided under a previously implemented case, including follow-up support for the IMSE and Experimental Force system. The proposed sale aims to extend those same services for an additional two years, the agency said. The two arms sale deals serve “US national, economic and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continuing efforts to modernize its armed forces and to maintain a credible defensive capability,” it said. The proposed arms sale deals would also “help improve the security of the recipient and assist in maintaining political stability, military balance and economic progress in the region,” it added. The sale of spare parts and support services for F-16 aircraft would be transferred from US government stock, the agency said. Implementation of the sale would not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to Taiwan, it added. In terms of the sale of follow-up support for IMSE, the agency said the principal contractor would be General Dynamics Mission Systems, in Fairfax, Virginia. Implementation of the sale would not require the assignment of US government representatives, but would require three contractor Technical Assistance Representatives being sent to Taiwan to support equipment fielding and training, it added. In Taipei, the Presidential Office yesterday said the latest arms sale deepened the Taiwan-US security partnership and is an important cornerstone for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The Ministry of National Defense expressed gratitude to the US for the latest arms sale, which it said would continue to provide Taiwan with assistance building the nation’s self-defense capabilities and establish a foundation to maintain regional stability. The sale of spare parts and support for F-16 fighter jets and active electronically scanned array radar logistics is expected to help maintain the combat readiness of the air force’s F-16 fleet and strengthen the country’s air defenses, it said. The proposed sale of IMSE follow-up support would provide Taiwan with necessary assistance to maintain the effectiveness of its tactical regional communications system, reinforce field information communication capabilities and establish a reliable defense, it added. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said it has received a formal notice from the US government for the two proposed arms sale deals, which highlight the efforts of the Biden administration to ensure Taiwan has sufficient self-defense capability to take on threats from China. MOFA also thanked the US government for approving the two arms sale deals to Taiwan based on the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) and “six assurances.” The TRA was enacted in 1979 to maintain commercial, cultural and other unofficial relations between the US and Taiwan after Washington switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing. The TRA also requires the US “to provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character.” The “six assurances,” which were issued by then-US president Ronald Reagan to Taiwan in 1982, include pledges that the US would not to set a date for ending arms sales to Taiwan and would not hold prior consultations with China on arms sales to Taiwan. 新聞來源: TAIPEI TIMES 不用抽 不用搶 現在用APP看新聞 保證天天中獎 點我下載APP 按我看活動辦法In addition to new quests, Update 2.2 will also bring significant gameplay enhancements and optimizations. Rosenblatt polled its analysts, including Steve Frankel, gathering their top picks for the first half of 2025. The stocks reflect key themes across its research universe, including the Age of Artificial Intelligence and the build-out of next-generation broadband. Steve Frankel maintained a Buy rating on Advanced Micro Devices, Inc AMD with a price target of $250. Also Read: Nvidia Secures EU Approval For Run:ai Deal, US Probes China Export Breach AMD is one of Rosenblatt’s top picks for the first half of 2025 on momentum in CPU and GPU share gains into 2025 and a broader non-AI recovery exiting 2025. The difference entering 2025 is that the Street acknowledges this dynamic, which has legs for double-digit market share in GPU compute and AI inference at the edge, being a secular opportunity on Xilinx incumbency and chiplet prowess. AMD’s EPYC processors will likely continue increasing the company’s revenue share in server and Data Center CPUs as the business proposition is significant, the analyst said. AMD’s MI350 in 2025 and MI400 in 2026 GPUs will drive additional revenues and increased market share on hyperscale adoption, chiplet scale, and AI moving to the edge, he added. The price target reflects a 25-times P/E multiple to Frankel’s $10.00 fiscal 2026 adjusted EPS. This multiple is in line with the analyst’s AI compute group average of 25 times. Frankel reiterated a Buy rating on Micron Technology, Inc MU with a price target of $250. Micron is one of Rosenblatt’s top picks for the first half of 2025, as he liked the big opportunity for DRAM content deployment in AI platforms going forward. In particular, the analyst liked Micron’s HBM opportunity, where the trade ratios are 3-to-1 to DDR5 and moving to 4-to-1 with the move to HBM4, a structural shift Frankel did not witness in any other memory cycle. Industry HBM supply continues to be an issue to watch as supply does not catch up to demand well into calendar 2025. For Micron, Frankel’s viewpoint on HBM is more related to the overall implications of DRAM bit supply, with HBM3E garnering a 3-to-1 trade ratio and HBM4 a 4-to-1 trade ratio, creating a favorable supply and demand dynamic. Frankel noted Micron as an HBM share gainer in HBM3E and HBM4 varietals and as the segment moves from 8-Hi to 12-Hi and 16-Hi configurations, where power efficiency (a Micron structural advantage) becomes increasingly important. Frankel found using P/E to value Micron reasonable, given its proven consistent profitability through cross-memory cycles, aggressive share buybacks, and a cycle driven by AI workload dynamics correlating to DRAM content. The price target reflects a mid-teens P/E multiple on the analyst’s $18 fiscal 2026 adjusted EPS. Price Actions: At last check on Monday, AMD stock was up 4.70% at $124.82. MU is down 0.78%.
