A small plane circled MetLife Stadium roughly 90 minutes before the New Orleans Saints beat the Giants 14-11 on Sunday, urging co-owner John Mara to overhaul a team that has made the playoffs twice since winning the Super Bowl in February 2012. “Mr. Mara, enough. Having one fan and probably scores or more upset has to be a concern for Mara and co-owner Steve Tisch. No owner wants his fan base unhappy, and it's not just about this season. Seven of the last eight seasons have ended with losing records, including the 2019 season, which featured a franchise record-tying nine straight losses. There have been two other nine-game skids, the first in 1976 and the second in 2003-04. Mara and Tisch need to make changes, but what should they do? The knee-jerk reaction would be to fire coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, who came in together in 2022 and led New York to the playoffs with a 9-7-1 record. That season began with seven wins in nine games. Since then, the Giants have posted an 11-28-1 record. The late Robert E. Mulcahy, the former head of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and later the athletic director at Rutgers, once said that the hardest decision he had to make was to keep Greg Schiano as the Scarlet Knights' coach after posting a 12-34 record in his first four seasons. Everyone wanted him fired. Mulcahy felt he had the right guy and held pat. It worked out. Mara and Tisch face a similar decision with the guys they brought in from Buffalo. If they feel Schoen and Daboll will turn around the Giants, they should stick with them. If not, change things. What they can't do is let an emotional fan base make the decision for them. Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence and D.J Davidson went on injured reserve last week and fellow defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches was out with neck and shoulder injuries. That left backups Elijah Chatman and Jordon Riley, newcomer Corey Durdon, and Elijah Garcia and Casey Rogers — who were signed off the practice squad to the active roster — to handle Alvin Kamara and the Saints. New Orleans was limited to 92 yards rushing. Giants opponents had been averaging almost 146 yards. What needs help The Giants remain the NFL's lowest-scoring team. In Washington, a Biden administration official noted that HTS will be an “important component” in Syria's future and that the U.S. needs to “engage with them appropriately.” Another administration official said the U.S. remains in a “wait and see” mode on whether to remove the designation. Both officials requested anonymity to discuss the ongoing internal deliberations. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters that such designations are constantly under review. Even while it is in place, the designation does not bar U.S. officials from speaking with members or leaders of the group, he said. The U.S. also announced it was sending its special envoy for hostage affairs to Beirut to seek information about the whereabouts of Austin Tice, a journalist who vanished in Syria 12 years ago and who President Joe Biden has said is believed to be alive. The SDF said a Turkish drone struck in the village of al-Mistriha in eastern Syria, killing 12 civilians, including six children. Turkey views the SDF, which is primarily composed of a Syrian Kurdish militia, as an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, which has waged a decades-long insurgency in Turkey. The SDF has also been a key ally of the United States in the war against the Islamic State group. A loud explosion was heard near Euston station today (Saturday, November 23) as UK police officers dealt with another bomb scare - the fifth in four days. Passengers were removed from the busy rail hub on Saturday afternoon (November 23) while the Met carried out a ‘controlled explosion’ just after 12:40pm. There have been five separate incidents in 96 hours after a similar incident in Scotland earlier this week. On Wednesday (November 20) at around 1pm, Buchanan Bus station in Glasgow was evacuated and there was a controlled explosion after an initial report that Police Scotland said was treated as 'a credible threat' . It later transpired nothing suspicious had been found and three men arrested over possession of offensive weapons were released without charge. Then at London Gatwick Airport, at about 8:20am on Friday morning (November 22), there was another bomb scare, causing disruption for thousands of travellers. A Sussex Police bomb disposal team made the package safe, the force said, and two people who were detained during the investigation were allowed to continue their journeys. Later on Friday morning, the Met carried out a controlled explosion outside the US embassy in Nine Elms, South West London, after reports of a suspicious package. After the explosion, a Scotland Yard spokesperson said:"Initial indications are that the item was a hoax device . An investigation will now follow." The US Embassy said it had cancelled public appointments for the rest of the day. Later the same day, at around 5pm in Chester city centre, near Liverpool, there was another controlled explosion at the bus and railway stations, causing delays for some passengers. A cordon was put up and Cheshire Police bomb squad made the area safe. Witnesses heard a 'very loud bang', BBC News reports. A Cheshire Police spokesperson later said "all was in order". This afternoon the Met wrote on X to say there had been reports of an incident near Euston Station, with police cordons in place while officers investigated a suspicious package. Around 20 minutes later the force confirmed the cordon had been lifted after a controlled explosion. The successive number of bomb scares in a short space of time has led to some speculation on social media. So far, however, there has been no comment from police, the Government, or security services.
